LAHORE: The Punjab Excise and Taxation Department has allegedly decided to raise the rates of vehicle registration and transfer fees, and the new rate shall be applicable from September 1, 2025.

But reports didn’t provide information on how much hike has been brought in the registration and excise fee. And besides that, there is no formal release in this context either.

Punjab Excise Current Transfer Fee

According to details provided on the official site, the transfer charge for motorcycles and scooters has been fixed at Rs550, and HTVs will now pay a fee of PKR 5,500.

The vehicle transfer for vehicles with an engine capacity of 1000cc or less is Rs 2,750. But the charge for vehicles with an engine capacity of over 1000cc but not exceeding 1800cc is Rs5,500.

In the same vein, the excise department levies Rs11,000 in the wake of the transfer fee on cars with engine capacity exceeding 1800cc.

The excise fees are intended to simplify the car transfer process and make the fee system more consistent by engine capacity.

According to the reports, the excise officials have requested citizens to facilitate the transfer of ownership of their cars in time, as more fees will be levied from September 1.

Earlier this month, the Punjab government introduced a new number plate registration system wherein number plates are now going to be issued in the name of the vehicle owner rather than the vehicle.

All vehicles and motorbikes registered in Punjab will be associated with the owner’s ID Card, according to Excise and Taxation Department officials.

In the new policy, the number plate will be kept with the old owner instead of being shifted along with the vehicle.

Used vehicle buyers will be given new number plates or can opt for their old ones if they are available and valid. Vehicle owners also have the option to give up their old number and get a new one in case of a new vehicle purchase.
