ISLAMABAD: The prices of electric bikes have been increased by up to Rs 5,000 in Pakistan.

The increase in prices of electric bikes is being attributed to increased demand amid concerns over rising petrol prices and possible supply disruptions due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

According to assemblers, sea freight charges, logistics costs and the rising cost of diesel-powered deliveries have forced the price hike.

The new prices will be applicable for some companies from April 3 while for others from April 10.

The price of battery-powered bikes has increased from Rs 125,000 to Rs 350,000, depending on different battery ranges and motor types.

According to a letter from an assembler, freight forwarders have increased fares by 30 percent, while the Transporters of Goods Association has announced a 60 percent increase in fares due to the increase in diesel prices.

The increase in sales of electric bikes can be gauged from the fact that one assembler sold over 7,000 units in March alone. On the other hand, sales of petrol bikes are also strong, however, future trends will be more clear from the March figures of the Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association.
