LAHORE: All motorcycle, car, and other vehicle buyers must get their vehicles registered with the Punjab Excise and Taxation Department and could face penalties for using them without registration.
The registration of vehicles in the province is the responsibility of the Punjab Excise Department. This registration of motor vehicles provides documentation and proper identification of all motor vehicles used in the province.
Any vehicle owner will need to provide the department with documents needed, such as proof of ownership, CNIC, and sales invoice. The department will then issue a registration number and certificate, which can be referenced when registering to track vehicles used, to provide road safety and theft prevention.
The registration process is also important for tax collection and compliance with traffic laws. In addition, it helps in providing ease of registration to the people of Punjab with the online system implemented by the Punjab government.
Honda CG125 and Suzuki GS 150 are the largest-selling bikes in Punjab.
These fees were from the old fee structure that was in place since the previous budget for fiscal year 2024-25, when the registration fees had increased.
Currently the registration fee for the new registration of Honda CG 125 is Rs. 2,000, which is a one-time fee uploaded by the purchaser.
In addition, the total amount for the new registration of the Suzuki GS 150 is Rs 2,500. The provincial government is set to announce the budget for the upcoming fiscal year 2025-26 in June. However, no confirmation has been made whether the registration rates will change or not.
