LAHORE: Kia launched its first electric vehicle, the Kia EV5, in Pakistan during the three-day Pakistan Auto Show 2024 at Lahore’s Expo Center, which saw many new cars unveiled in the Pakistani market.
Kia’s electric SUV EV5 comes in two variants — AIR (short-range) and EARTH (Long-Range) — each offering unique specifications that promise both performance and sustainability.
Several car manufacturers, including MG, Kia, Hyundai, and Changan, unveiled or launched their new models at the Pakistan Auto Show. Some of the notable debuts in the country include Chinese cars BYD Seal and Atto3, MG HS PHEV, Hyundai’s Elantra Hybrid, and Changan’s Lumin EV.
The EV5 AIR variant produces 160Kw, while the motors of the EARTH variant generate a combined power of 230Kw. The AIR variant has the motor in front, while the other has both rear and front motors.
The AIR variant has a 6.6Kw charger (single phase), which completes charging in approximately 9 hours and 43 minutes. While the EARTH has a fast charger of 50Kw with a charging time of 72 minutes.
Both cars can reach a maximum speed of 185 kilometers/hour. Furthermore, AIR is 2WD, and EARTH is AWD. The AIR’s All-Electric Range (AER + NEDC) is 490 kilometers/charge, while EARTH’s range is 620 kilometers.
Both variants have LED headlights (MFR) type with LED Daytime Running Lights (DRLs) and LED taillights. Both have standard features of Electric Mirror Function Folding, Heated & Electric Mirror Adjustment, Rear High-Mounted Stop Light, and Solar Glass (windscreen, Rear windows, front door glass, and tailgate).
The seat covering in AIR is made of fabric and artificial leather, in comparison to artificial leather (one-tone) in the EARTH variant. Moreover, both have electric power steering, a tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS), a tire mobility kit, and four drive modes (Eco, Normal, Sport, and Snow).
The price of the Kia EV% AIR variant is Rs. 18,500,000, while the EARTH variant comes with the price of Rs. 23,500,000.
