Al Haj Automotive victims write to Prime Minister over fraud in Proton cars delivery

ISLAMABAD: Victims of Al-Haj Automotive — producer and distributors of Proton Motors in Pakistan — have appealed to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif over the Ponzi scheme of the company as it delayed the delivery of PROTON-X70 cars for three years.

According to the appeal, a copy of which is available with Daily Ausaf, around 130 buyers booked PROTON-X70 cars from Al-Haj Automotive three years ago and paid the entire amount of the vehicle as per company rules, which is collectively more than one billion rupees.

After receiving the amount, Proton’s official dealership provided vehicles to some buyers to gain the market’s trust. However, since then, the company has kept silent and hasn’t delivered vehicles to any other customer.

“Al Haj Automotive is neither giving us the vehicle as per the contract nor refunding the amount,” the victims said in a joint appeal written to Prime Minister, COAS Gen Asim Munir, and CJP Yahya Afirid.

The appeal further added that on the extreme insistence of some victims, the company issued two checks to refund their amount, which also turned fraudulent as both checks were bounced.

“In these circumstances, our concern has increased. We are anxious about our hard-earned money. The company has been harassing us for a year now with various pretexts,” the appeal read.

The victims urged the government to play a role in getting their vehicles or money back with compensation and demanded strict action against the automobile company for stealing people’s money.
