KARACHI: The cash withdrawal fees through debit cards collected by banks are a reflection of various expenses incurred by banks on services, like customer support that it provides.
When a customer withdraws cash from someone else’s ATM, the bank pays a fee to the ATM operator, and a portion of that is passed on to the customer. However, even if the ATM is operated in the same network, the bank shall have charges for other expenses, such as maintenance and security costs.
Besides, there are often also the so-called foreign transaction fees if a customer withdraws cash abroad with a debit card or makes purchases.
In Pakistan, the ATMs have become a convenient source of accessing banking services in an enthusiastic pace with the development of the digital and mobile banking. But this facility will incur different charges by different banks.
