ISLAMABAD: The latest weekly report from the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics highlights a mixed trend in the prices of essential goods, reflecting ongoing fluctuations in the country’s economy.

Over the week ending March 14th, prices of 10 essential items decreased, while 23 remained stable and 18 increased. This led to a 1.35% weekly rise and a significant 32% annual increase in essential item prices, with a modest 0.89% increase from the previous week.

Notable increases were seen in cooking oil, Banaspati ghee, flour, and sugar, while certain items like lentils saw price drops. Significant surges were noted in tomatoes, bananas, and eggs.

These fluctuations affected different income groups, with the Consumer Price Sensitive Index showing a 0.91% increase for the lowest income bracket and decreases ranging from 0.86% to 1.55% for higher brackets.
