Easypaisa announces Rs99 fee for Biometric & account upgradation? Details inside

ISLAMABAD: EasyPaisa, a mobile wallet used by more than 9.5 million Pakistanis, recently added Rs 99 charges for failed biometric verification and account upgrades with NADRA, which has no clear regulatory justification.

EasyPaisa users reported multiple deductions from their accounts after unsuccessful attempts to match their fingerprints.

A recent notification received by EasyPaisa users said, “your fingerprints could not be matched with your ID card from NADRA records”, asking the person to scan the fingerprints. was

It states that you can get your account biometric verified at your nearest retailer, and the fee is Rs. 99 rupees will be charged from your account for biometric verification.

The recent move has raised questions and Easypaisa is yet to share any official statement about the introduction of new charges.

In 2023, the mobile wallet company imposed an SMS alert fee of Rs 15 per month, causing concern among its wide range of users. In contrast, the Central Bank of Pakistan directed all banks and micro banks to share free SMS and email alerts.
