RAWALPINDI: The Punjab government has chosen to carry on the “layer poultry farming” initiative that Shehbaz Sharif started in 2016 while serving as chief minister, and that the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) government later carried out.

However, the program was terminated in 2022 following the vote of no confidence that overthrew Imran Khan’s administration.

Citizens registered under the program were given a batch of five hens and one rooster, according to the poultry subsidy system. The beneficiaries would receive a thirty percent subsidy.

During his visit to the Rawalpindi Poultry Research Institute on Friday, Punjab Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Dairy Development Syed Ashiq Hussain Kirmani ordered the resumption of providing egg-laying hens to farmers at subsidized rates.

He emphasized the need to increase the number of egg-laying hens to meet the demand for eggs in the province.

Set of five hens and one rooster to be provided to registered citizens; minister says govt aims to promote poultry industry in the province.

“We are committed to supporting our farmers and promoting the poultry industry in the province,” the minister declared. By increasing egg output and lowering farmers’ production costs, the program’s resumption will lower the price of eggs for consumers.

Along with directing the institute to implement nutrition programs, enhance breeding, and raise the number of egg-laying hens, he emphasized the necessity for ongoing research and development in the poultry industry to ensure the industry’s sustained growth and development.
