PESHAWAR: Amid the rising cost of living, another financial blow hits the people of Peshawar as the price of roti (bread) skyrocketed in the provincial capital.

The district administration of Peshawar has increased the price of bread by Rs5 once again. Along with the price increase, the weight of the roti has also been increased by 5 grams.

According to a notification issued by the deputy commissioner, a 125-gram roti will now cost Rs20 with immediate effect across the district. Previously, a 120-gram roti was sold for Rs15. Similarly, the price of a 240-gram roti is set at Rs30.

The district administration stated that the price hike was introduced on the recommendations of the Price Review Committee, which cited the rising cost of flour as the key reason behind the increase.

On the other hand, the bakers say that the price of an 80-kilogram bag of flour has increased from Rs7,000 to Rs8,900, and they will incur losses with even new roti prices.
