Sindh, Punjab govt announce solar panels at affordable prices; Details inside

KARACHI: The Punjab and Sindh governments have announced plans for solar panels to the public at affordable prices to address energy challenges and provide sustainable electricity solutions to households.

The Sindh government has partnered with the World Bank to offer complete solar systems at an affordable price of just Rs 7,000 for households across the province, particularly targeting rural and underserved areas.

Under this scheme, solar panels will be distributed among 200,000 households throughout Sindh, including 50,000 in Karachi at the nominal cost of Rs 7,000. Each solar system is designed to power a fan and three LED bulbs, providing essential lighting and ventilation to households.

Sindh government revealed that 6,656 solar systems would be distributed in each district, starting in October as soon as the purchasing is complete, with solar panels, charge controllers, and batteries included in the system package.

Solar panel scheme by the Sindh government

The Sindh director of alternative energy revealed that 6,656 solar systems would be distributed in each district at the nominal cost of Rs 7,000. The project will start in October as soon as the purchasing is complete, with solar panels, charge controllers, and batteries included in the system package. 

Punjab government to provide free solar systems

On the other hand, the Punjab government has unveiled plans to provide free solar systems to 50,000 households in the province.

Under the scheme, households consuming up to 100 units of electricity per month will be eligible for the free solar systems. The government will cover all expenses, including the cost of the solar systems and their installation.

The Punjab government will bear 100 percent cost of the solar system and installation. The project will cost 10 billion rupees. The households benefiting from electricity theft, meter tampering records, or any other scheme will not be eligible.
