DUBAI: The Central Bank of the United Arab Emirates (CBUAE) has unveiled a new 100 dirham note with advanced security features.

According to the Emirates News Agency, the newly issued note is made of polymer material and features the latest design and enhanced security.

The move aims to promote sustainability and advance the UAE’s modern financial system. The new note is part of the third issuance of the national currency, highlighting the UAE’s development, cultural heritage and achievements as a global economic hub.

Designed in different shades of red to easily distinguish it from existing banknotes, the new 100 dirham note features the UAE’s national brand, as well as intricate designs and inscriptions using advanced printing technology.

On the front, the note depicts the historic Umm Al Quwain Fort, a symbol of the country’s cultural heritage. The reverse side shows images of Fujairah Port and Etihad Rail, reflecting the UAE’s modern infrastructure and economic development.

To prevent counterfeiting, the banknote features advanced security technologies such as Spark Flow Direction and Kinegram Colors. Additionally, Braille symbols have been added to help visually impaired people identify the value of the note.

Made from polymer, the new banknote is twice as durable as traditional paper notes, making it more cost-effective and environmentally friendly.

According to the Central Bank of the UAE, the new note will be in circulation from March 24, 2025, and will be legal tender alongside the existing 100 dirham banknote.

Banks and exchange houses have been instructed to update their ATMs and currency counting machines to accommodate the new note.

Speaking on the occasion, Khalid Mohammed Balamah, Governor of the Central Bank of the UAE, said that the new note reflects the country’s commitment to sustainable development and financial competitiveness.

He added that its design pays tribute to the UAE’s historical values while also representing aspirations for future development.
