LAHORE: The Punjab government is considering a plan for the 2025 school summer break after the Met Office forecasted above-normal temperatures for the current month of April, raising concerns about the severity of the upcoming hot weather.
The School Education Department has asked Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz to start the summer vacation on June 1, 2025, due to the extreme heat and the potential for a heatwave. The suggested date might be altered, though, given how severe the heatwave is.
Despite worries about the heat, Punjab Education Secretary Khalid Nazir Wattoo said the department had recommended vacation times based on the yearly academic calendar.
However, even if the heat intensifies, early summer vacations can not be ruled out.
They have asked the chief minister to authorize the holidays beginning on June 1st, he continued. The chief minister will make the final decision after considering expert forecasts and meteorological conditions.
The Punjab government cut school hours by thirty minutes earlier this month. Since April 7, the revised schedule has been in place, and it will last until October 15.
Schools now open at 7:30 am, with single and double shifts having different closing times. Despite the change in school hours, many parents are still worried about their kids’ health in the extreme heat.
