KARACHI: The annual matriculation exams in Karachi have commenced today on Tuesday, under tight security. About 380,000 children with science and general groups between regular and private candidates appeared for the exams.

Law enforcement agencies have set up Section 144 around exam centers to protect the examination and facilitate the smooth conduct of examinations.

Candidates are prohibited from carrying any electronic devices or mobile phones into exam centres, and any device found would be immediately confiscated.

The matric board has also taken precautionary measures to ensure the proper conduct of the examinations. For example, photocopy machines near exams had to be closed during the hours of the respective exam for additional protection against misuse.

The board notified K-Electric to keep an uninterrupted power supply so that students are not inconvenienced. Zaheeruddin Bhutto, Controller of Matriculation Examinations Karachi, warned students against joining WhatsApp groups during the examinations because strict actions would occur against any student who circulated exam papers on social media.

Bhutto stated that any person leaking papers via WhatsApp would be legally prosecuted under the Cybercrime Act.  The plans laid out are in an effort to combat cheating and preserve the integrity of the examination process.
