PMDC announces major relief for medical students

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Medical and Dental College (PMDC) has withdrawn the condition of 65% passing marks for students of MBBS and BDS.

The fresh notification, issued for the 2024-2025 academic session, stipulates that the passing marks for MBBS and BDS will be reverted to 50%.

The council had, at an earlier stage, increased the passing threshold to 65% for the 2024-2025 session. The decision has been rolled back now after feedback and discussions to make the standard more accessible for students of medicine and dentistry in the country.

Along with the revision of passing marks, the PMDC relaxed the attendance requirement for medical students as well. While an 85% attendance rate was earlier compulsory, the council restored the 75% attendance requirement for the next session.

The notification further told all medical universities to implement these changes without any delay in the 2024-2025 academic session.

These changes are intended to make medical education more accessible, but still demanding for future doctors. The recent steps by PMDC are likely to bring smiles to hundreds of students who were finding it tough to meet the earlier requirements.
