LAHORE: Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar Tuesday said that no conclusive decision has been made yet on the government’s recent announcement to ban the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

Speaking to the media at Lahore’s Data Darbar, the foreign minister stated any such decision would only be taken after consultation with coalition partners.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif-led federal government on Monday announced its decision to ban the party and seek Article 6 proceedings against former PM Imran Khan, former president Dr Arif Alvi, and former National Assembly (NA) deputy speaker Qasim Suri.

Questioned about the Information Minister’s press conference, Ishaq Dar said, “The information minister clearly said [that the decision to ban] will be made by leadership after [consultation] with allies.”

Talking to the media, he further said that the current economic challenges were not introduced by the incumbent government but were a consequence of previous administrations. “The economic downslide began with the ousting of Nawaz Sharif, not during our tenure,” Dar asserted.

Meanwhile, on the matter of banning PTI, PPP Secretary General Nayyar Bukhari said the party would give its own opinion after internal consultation and downplayed statements from other party leaders as their personal opinions.
