LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s groundbreaking initiative, the Chief Minister’s Punjab Children Cardiac Surgery Program, has achieved remarkable success in reducing the pediatric heart surgery waiting list.
Since its launch, 530 patients have received treatment in 14 hospitals across the province, including six government and eight private hospitals.
The program’s implementation is being closely monitored through a dashboard, ensuring timely registration and entry of patient details into a central database. This streamlined process enables efficient management of patient care.
Approximately 4,500 children have been referred for treatment under this program, with cardiac surgeries being performed at prominent institutions such as the Children’s Hospital and Cardiology Institutes in Lahore, Multan, Faisalabad, and Rawalpindi.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz emphasized the importance of every child’s health, stating, “We will try hard to save their lives.” The program extends its services to children from other provinces, including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Recognizing the distress caused by prolonged waiting periods, the chief minister acknowledged the need to address the shortage of specialized heart surgeons and trained staff to increase children’s hospitals’ capacity.
This initiative demonstrates the government’s commitment to providing quality healthcare services, particularly for vulnerable populations like children. By leveraging technology and strengthening healthcare infrastructure, the program aims to ensure timely treatment for every child suffering from cardiovascular diseases.
