RAWALPINDI: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has approved the construction of the Kulsoom Nawaz Hospital in Rawalpindi Cantt, a state-of-the-art facility aimed at providing international-standard healthcare services to residents.

The hospital will be built on a 36-kanal site near Chohar Chowk, on the grounds of the former GTS terminal, and will feature 3,000 beds, including a dedicated cardiac ward. A comprehensive PC-1 proposal has been prepared, and construction is expected to begin within the year, funded under the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP).

Once operational, the hospital will cater to residents of Rawalpindi Cantt and surrounding areas, including Taxila, Attock, Haripur, Fateh Jang, Tarnol, and Hassan Abdal.

This project reflects the vision of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and current Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to transform Rawalpindi into a modern, developed city.

National Assembly member Malik Ibrar and Provincial Assembly member Malik Iftikhar emphasized that the hospital marks the beginning of a new chapter in the city’s development, with special funds allocated for its timely completion. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is expected to lay the foundation stone of the project.

This initiative aligns with Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s broader healthcare agenda for Punjab, which includes providing free emergency medicine in government hospitals, launching health screening programs, and establishing state-of-the-art hospitals in each district to treat diseases like cancer, kidney, and liver conditions.

Her government has also pledged to improve healthcare infrastructure, including deploying qualified doctors and ultrasound machines in Basic Health Units and Rural Health Centers.
