6.1 Magnitude Earthquake rocks Guatemala

Thankfully, no reports of injuries surfaced right after the earthquake, but there were reports of structural damage.

Late on Friday, an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.1 struck Guatemala’s southern Pacific coast, forcing some locals to escape their homes and prompting early reports of building damage. El Salvador was also affected by the earthquake, which was confirmed by the US Geological Survey (USGS).

Luckily, no injuries were reported in the early aftermath of the earthquake, which struck just after midnight while many people were asleep.El Salvadorian officials declared the earthquake to be “strong” and said they were keeping a careful eye on the situation.

The hamlet of Taxisco, Guatemala, which is situated roughly 60 miles (100 km) south of Guatemala City, is home to the earthquake’s epicentre. Many terrified citizens of the city were compelled to flee their homes when alarms went off.

In the hamlet of San Pablo Jocopilas, northwest of the epicentre of the earthquake, a church’s front partially collapsed, according to CONRED, Guatemala’s emergency services agency.According to USGS data, the earthquake occurred at a depth of 108 kilometers (67 miles).
