CM Punjab Maryam Nawaz unveils ‘Roshan Gharana- Free Solar’ program

LAHORE: The Chief Minister of Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif unveiled a plan to distribute 50,000 solar systems under the “Chief Minister Roshan Gharana” program across the province.

Addressing a review meeting on the scheme on March 26, CM Maryam Nawaz directed concerned authorities to initiate immediate steps for the installation of a one-kilowatt solar system. She also directed to bring in solar systems of the latest technology.

In Phase 1, with the Budget outlay of Rs 12.6 billion, 50,000 protected consumers using 100 units monthly will be given solar systems through balloting. Gradually home-based solar systems will be provided to other consumers of Punjab. A solar system will include an advanced solar plate, inverter, battery, and other allied accessories.

Provincial Information Minister Azma Zahid Bukhari, Former Senator Pervaiz  Rashid, MPA Sania Ashiq, Chief Secretary, Chairman Planning and Development, Secretaries Energy, Finance, Chief Executive Officer Punjab Power Development Company (PPDCL), Managing Director Punjab Power Development Board (PPDB) and other relevant officers attended the meeting.

Maryam Nawaz has launched several public welfare programs since she was elected the first-ever Chief Minister of Punjab. Earlier this month, the chief minister approved the “Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar” project. Under this program, over three thousand dwellings would be built for low-income households in each district of Punjab.

CM Maryam Nawaz also launched a bike scheme for students under which 1000 e-bikes and 19,000 petrol bikes will be given to students in Phase 1 of the project through balloting.
