The Nepali government immediately banned the Chinese social media platform TikTok.
According to a foreign news agency, the government of Nepal has decided to legislate a ban on TikTok and other similar platforms.
Officials took the stand that because of TikTok, not only the wrong trend is being created in the young generation but also negative effects are being read on them.
Nepali Communications Minister and Government Spokesperson Rekha Sharma said that the cabinet meeting has decided to ban TikTok immediately.
The ban on TikTok came 5 days after the government’s announcement regarding the legislation of all social media platforms, while also giving 3 months to the offices of social media platforms based in Nepal to address the government’s complaints.
A government spokesperson said decisions are pending on other platforms including social networking website X and Facebook, while government guidelines for social media users prohibit using fake identities and engaging in defamatory activities.
Social media platforms have also been instructed to reveal the real identity of the user and cooperate with the investigation in case of any complaint.
