The cost of applying online to get an adult passport will go up from £82.50 to £88.50. Those using postal applications will have to pay £100.

This rise follows a 9 per cent rise in February 2023. Before that increase, passport fees had remained unchanged for five years. The fee to apply online for an adult passport renewal or new passport will increase from £82.50 to £88.50.

Additionally, the cost of a child’s passport will increase; the online application will now cost £57.50 instead of £53.50. Postal passport applications now cost £100 instead of £93 for adults and £64 instead of £69 for children.

The fee for foreign applicants applying online is £101 for adults and £65.50 for children. Adult applicants from overseas who use paper applications must pay £112.50, and children must pay £77.

The home office said the increased fees will help reduce reliance on funding from general taxation. Consumer group said this would come as a shock to travellers who are due to renew their passports.
