KASHMORE: Police have detained a TikTok influencer, Uroosa Solangi, on allegations of assisting criminal gangs in luring and kidnapping young men using honey-trap operations in the riverine “katcha” districts.
As per the Kashmore police, katcha belt dacoit gangs initially employed fake female voices on the telephone to lure individuals to their dens, where they were kidnapped and kept for ransom. Once the trick was discovered, the gangs started baiting with cheap cars before going in for more sophisticated means.
Over the past few years, the investigators add, the gangs began to use social media by employing influencers to target and trap victims. Solangi is reported to have been instrumental by posing as expressing romantic interest in men from various cities, fixing in-person meetings, and then passing them on to dacoits.
The police have confirmed that the TikToker has been arrested and digital evidence extracted from her mobile phone directly implicated her in multiple cases of abduction.
Police confirmed that investigators had uncovered how Solangi would establish rapport with the victims via video calls before persuading them to visit the katcha region, where they were abducted and subsequently kidnapped.
According to the authorities, other investigations are ongoing to catch other suspects and shut down the network operating in the area.
