25 passenger injured as Shalimar Express derails near Chak Jhumra

CHAK JHUMRA: At least 25 passengers, including the train driver and his assistant, were injured when a tractor-trolley collided with the train in the early hours of Wednesday morning near Chak Jhumra Tehsil of Faisalabad, according to media reports.

The Shalimar Express was en route to Lahore from Faisalabad when it collided with the tractor-trolley stranded on the railway crossing near Chak No.142-RB Chuti Ghartal.

The Tractor was parked on the train track as it was out of fuel, resulting in the derailment of two of the coaches, as per the initial reports.

After being alerted, local police and rescue personnel hurried to the scene in order to save the passengers.

Several injured people received first aid on the spot by Rescue 1122, and the seriously injured were sent to THQ Hospital Chak Jhumra for more medical care.

Due to damage to the railway track, all services from Faisalabad to Lahore and Wazirabad were suspended indefinitely, and train traffic between Sahianwala and Salarwala was suspended.

The Railway track shallow be functional till night said Superintendent of Railway Tariq Latif, adding that 10 teams are busy repairing the damage area of the track.

The injured persons were shifted to the hospital while the driver of the trolley escaped from the scene.
