KARACHI: Following the fatal accident on Karachi’s Karsaz Road on Monday, killing a man and daughter and injuring four, people have expressed irk over an accident caused due to extreme negligence involving an elite Pakistani family.

Internet users initiated a social media campaign demanding justice for the victims and boycotting Gul Ahmed Textiles Limited for its alleged connection with accused Natasha Iqbal.

What happened

On Monday evening, a speeding Toyota Land Cruiser lost control and hit a motorcycle before plunging onto the service road. As a result, two people died on the spot, while four persons sustained serious injuries and were taken to a nearby hospital for immediate medical attention.

City Court in Karachi today sent Natasha Iqbal, wife of Metro Power Company Ltd CEO Danish Iqbal, to jail on judicial remand.

Earlier, Natasha’s husband claimed that she was mentally ill and was admitted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) after receiving a head injury in the accident. However, she has been discharged after the checkup.

“We kept her under observation and on repeated mental state examination and relevant psychological scales it is found that there is no immediate deliberate self-harm or risk of suicide so she may be discharged from the Department of Psychiatry as there is no need for immediate psychiatric intervention at present,” letter from hospital’s Psychiatrist and Behavioral Sciences Department said.

‘Boycott Gul Ahmed’

Considering the whole scenario of Natasha Iqbal’s family using their influence to save her, social media users have started the Gul Ahmed campaign.

One of the Reddit user, wrote, “Boycott Gul Ahmed”, adding that the owner’s wife murdered people while driving drunk in Karachi.

Another Reddit user demanded justice for Amna Arif, who was killed along with her father in the KArsaz Road accident. The user wrote that Amna was just 25 years old and she was pursuing her MBA at Iqra University and was also working at Systems Limited.

“But all of this was snatched away by this monster who was driving dangerously and under the influence of drugs, who belongs to the elite of Pakistan and is connected with the Gul Ahmed Group,” the user wrote in a Reddit post.

Another X user, wrote, Don’t be fooled by Gul Ahmed’s crocodile tears! Their Chairman’s wife is a killer on our streets. Moreover, she demanded a boycott of Gul Ahmed.

Chairman Gul Ahmed Textile Mills Limited Mohammed Zaki Bashir is also a member of the Board of Directors of Gul Ahmed Power Company (Private) Limited which is owned by Natasha’s husband Danish Iqbal.
