ISLAMABAD: National Assembly (NA) Speaker Asad Qaiser has written letters to the Prime Minister and the Leader of Opposition of the outgoing National Assembly for seeking names to constitute an eight-member Committee under Article 224 -A (1) of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan for appointment of the Caretaker Prime Minister.

In separate letters, addressed to both Prime Minister Imran Khan and Leader of the Opposition Shehbaz Sharif, NA Speaker Asad Qaiser sought four nominees to a committee comprising Eight members of the outgoing National Assembly, or Senate, or both. The Committee would have equal representation from both the Treasury and the Opposition benches. The Committee would discuss and finalise a name out of two names forwarded to the Committee by the Prime Minister and the Leader of the Opposition to be appointed as Caretaker Prime Minister.

On April 5, the Spokesman National Assembly Secretariat has strongly refuted a news item circulating in the media regarding the Speaker of National Assembly Asad Qaiser on the no-confidence motion against the Prime Minister and the ruling of the Deputy Speaker thereon.

The Spokesman has termed all such news, fabricated and baseless. He informed that the Speaker National Assembly Asad Qaiser had decided not to preside over the session on 3rd April since a no-confidence motion had been submitted against him.

He further informed that the Speaker National Assembly concurred with the ruling given by the Deputy Speaker on the no-confidence motion and had signed it. The Spokesman further said that matter was pending before the Hon. Supreme Court and the Speaker will present his point of view before the court through his counsel. He said that attributing such news to Speaker be avoided.

on April 3, an hour before the commencement of the national assembly session scheduled to vote on the no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Imran Khan, in a surprising move, the opposition parties have submitted a vote of no-confidence against Speaker Asad Qaiser.

With the motion against him submitted in the National Assembly secretariat, Qaiser will not be constitutionally mandated to chair the session on a no-confidence motion against PM Imran. The voting on the no-confidence motion on Speaker will be held in the next assembly session.
