ISLAMABAD: The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee is set to convene on Sunday, March 30, 2025, corresponding to Ramazan 29, 1446 AH, to ascertain the sighting of the Shawwal moon, marking the beginning of Eid-ul-Fitr.
At the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony, distinguished religious scholars, meteorologists, and officials will carefully review moon sighting reports from all Pakistan to verify the date for Eid ul Fitr celebrations.
The sighting of the new moon defines the lunar months of the Islamic calendar, including Ramadan, Eid, and Muharram. The Pakistan Space & Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (Suparco) uses scientific methods, astronomical calculations, and advanced technology to forecast the appearance of the Ramadan and Shawwal crescents.
Astronomically, the Shawwal moon should be visible on March 30, suggesting that Eid ul Fitr will most certainly fall on March 31, 2025.
Knowledge of Islamic law, however, mandates the committee to see the moon with the naked eye in order to confirm the start of a new month; thus, they will gather evidence from all over the nation before issuing the official declaration.
This careful approach guarantees the dependability and veracity of the moon sighting, therefore letting Pakistani Muslims observe Eid ul Fitr confidently.
