LONDON: The UK has put in place far-reaching reforms to frame its immigration system towards those who contribute the most to economic growth, including higher skill standards for graduates and workers.
The reforms relate to citizenship, international students, English language provisions, skilled workers, migration, and more. The British government has also stated that it will be changing the post-study work or stay period for international students (including Pakistan) coming to the UK under the Graduate route.
The Graduate route was introduced in July 2021 as an unsponsored route, allowing students to stay in the UK for two years (or three years for PhD students) after finishing their studies.
The focus of this route is for international student graduates to employ or seek employment after completing an eligible course of study.
“We appreciate the positive contributions that graduates make to the UK, but it is important that any graduates who stay move into graduate-level employment and make a positive contribution to our economy,” the UK government said in an official statement.
