KARACHI: In a shocking turn of events, Asher Azfar Mahesar, son of Rapid Response Force Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Azfar Mahesar, smashed his car into a woman on his way home towards Garden area of Karachi, leaving her seriously injured.

According to the police reports, Asher Azfar was allegedly under the influence when the accident happened, a huge crowd gathered around the car making Asher’s vehicle to stop.

Asher was accompanied by two police personnel at that time. The gunmen accompanying him resorted to aerial firing to disperse the crowd that had gathered around the vehicle.

It is very alarming, particularly in light of Asher’s history of trouble, including viral last year’s videos of him waving guns and firing in the air at several locations sometimes while driving a car.

The police have taken Asher, along with DIG’s nephew Mubashir Raza and two personnel of the Rapid Response Force, into custody and transferred them to the relevant police station. Meanwhile, the injured woman has been shifted to Civil Hospital for treatment.

The behavior that has unfolded here can be alarming, especially since Asher’s capability for this is not a first. He reportedly was under intoxication, while not in control of a vehicle, and firing in the air. Being in company with police personnel and using a government registration plate raises questions concerning accountability and misuse of power.
