DPO Shangla district survives bomb attack

SHANGLA: A top police official from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Shangla district evaded a remote-controlled improvised explosive device (IED) attack on Saturday,

According to police reports, District Police Officer (DPO) Shangla Shah Hassan and other officers were unharmed during the incident. However, a private vehicle owned by a special branch executive was damaged.

Following the incident, police authorities sealed off the area and initiated a search operation to capture the perpetrators.

Last year, on March 26, at least six individuals, including five Chinese nationals, were slain after their car was ambushed in Shangla’s Besham city.

Terror assaults increased sharply in January 2025, up 42% over the previous month. according to data released by the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS), a think tank.

The statistics indicated that at least 74 terrorist assaults occurred across the country, killing 91 people, including 35 security officers, 20 civilians, and 36 militants. Another 117 people were injured, including 53 security forces members, 54 civilians, and 10 militants.

KP was the most hit province, followed by Balochistan. In KP’s populated districts, terrorists launched 27 strikes, killing 19 people, including 11 security officers, six civilians, and two militants.

KP’s tribal areas (formerly Fata) had 19 assaults, resulting in 46 deaths, including 13 security officers, eight civilians, and 25 terrorists.
