LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Friday expressed serious concerns over the ongoing pollution caused by tanneries, warning that those who fail to install proper water treatment systems risk closure.

Justice Shahid Karim made the remarks while hearing a number of petitions related to environmental degradation. Expressing concern over the harmful effects of untreated industrial waste, the judge noted that pollution from tanneries is causing serious health problems, including birth defects in children.

Justice Karim said that this has been going on for a very long time and should end. He added that industries that harm public health have no place in society.
