Federal Ombudsperson fines, demotes bank official Tariq Raza over harassment case

ISLAMABAD (Rana Farrukh Saeed): The Federal Ombudsperson for Protection against Harassment (FOSPAH)  has found Tariq Raza, Area Manager of Apna Microfinance Bank Limited, guilty of sexual harassment, ordered his demotion for two years, and a fine of Rs 200,000.

The Assistant Vice President and Branch Manager filed a complaint in the Federal Ombudsman’s Regional Office Lahore in October 2022 that Tariq Raza had continuously sent her inappropriate, sexual messages and tried to exert emotional pressure for 18 months.

WhatsApp messages were presented as evidence, which confirmed her claim. After investigation, it was found that Tariq Raza’s behavior was creating an environment of fear and pressure, which falls under the category of sexual harassment according to the law.

On this, FOSPAH has ordered Tariq Raza to be demoted for two years and to pay a fine of Rs 200,000. Out of this, Rs 100,000 will be given to the complainant as compensation.
