GILGIT: The Election Commission of Gilgit-Baltistan has announced the postponement of the general elections due to severe weather conditions.

The commission had issued a schedule to hold the elections on January 24, but it has now been withdrawn.

According to the Chief Election Commissioner of Gilgit-Baltistan, this decision was taken after considering the suggestions and reservations of the political parties at the All Parties Conference.

He said that polling was not possible due to severe cold and snowfall in January.

He further said that different political parties had disagreed on the election schedule issued, which is why the Election Commission has decided to withdraw the schedule.

The new date and schedule of the general elections will be announced later.

It should be noted that representatives of all political parties attended the All Parties Conference held in Gilgit.
