ISLAMABAD: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has placed the names of 13 of its officials on the passport control list (PCL) for their alleged involvement in a recent Greece boat tragedy.
An investigation committee probing the incident revealed the involvement of 31 FIA officers, including inspectors, sub-inspectors, and constables.
FIA said that the officials are suspected of facilitating the illegal travel of individuals who drowned in the ill-fated boat incident.
As per details, 19 officers from Faisalabad Airport, three from Sialkot Airport, two from Lahore Airport, two from Islamabad Airport, and five from Quetta Airport have been found to facilitate human smuggling.
In a review meeting on Friday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif directed authorities concerned to strengthen the prosecution process against traffickers.
Shehbaz Sharif also instructed officials to constitute a committee under the leadership of the Interior Minister to find sustainable solutions for eradicating human trafficking.
The Prime Minister also called for disciplinary action against government officials facilitating human trafficking. He directed that visa checks and other regulations for all individuals traveling abroad be made more effective.
