ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan has accepted the resignation of party secretary general Omar Ayub.

Talking to the media, Omar Ayub said that I had requested to present my resignation to the founding chairman during the meeting with the Senate opposition leader.

The former secretary general of PTI said that I am grateful for accepting the resignation of the founder chairman.

He added that he had earlier submitted his resignation on June 22 but it was not accepted at that time.

The burden of being the Leader of the Opposition, handling legal matters, serving as the PTI General Secretary and overseeing constitutional matters was overwhelming.

The former secretary general concluded by saying, “I will continue to work with the founding chairman as a PTI worker.”

Omar Ayub is likely to be replaced by Salman Akram Raja

According to sources, Salman Akram Raja is likely to be made the new Secretary General.

The decision is reportedly due to a lack of consensus within the party led by Omar Ayub, who will continue to serve as the Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly.

Opposition Leader Omar Ayub and Senator Shibli Faraz will lead the parliamentary team.

A think tank headed by Rauf Hasan will be formed to monitor government performance and issuance of white papers on electoral issues.

Sources indicated that the notification of these decisions will be issued after the party meeting.

However, Barrister Gohar said that he was not aware of the nomination of Salman Akram Raja as Secretary General.

He further clarified that the responsibility of Additional Secretary General is assumed after the nomination of the new Secretary General.
