KARACHI: An Indian plane en route from New Delhi to Jeddah made an emergency landing at Jinnah International Airport in Karachi on Saturday after a passenger’s health deteriorated onboard.

Aviation authorities said that an IndiGo Airlines flight was in Pakistani airspace when a 55-year-old passenger fell seriously ill, upon which the flight’s captain was informed following the basic medical care.

As his condition deteriorated, the pilot contacted the Karachi Air Traffic Control and requested permission for an emergency landing.

After the clearance was granted from the Karachi Area Control Centre, the flight was diverted to Karachi, where it landed safely.

A Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority medical team immediately boarded the aircraft and provided the passenger with medical assistance. The passenger, an Indian Muslim, also received medication.

After his health condition stablisied, the plane was allowed to resume its journey. Airport sources confirmed that the flight departed back to Delhi instead of continuing to Jeddah.
