RAWALPINDI: A prisoner, incarcerated in Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail died under mysterious circumstances on Friday.
According to the jail administration, a prisoner identified as Nazir fell ill in the central jail and was shifted to District Headquarters Hospital (DHQ) Rawalpindi after his condition deteriorated.
The prisoner died during treatment late last night and the postmortem has not been done yet.
The deceased inmate’s family expressed worries about the death of Nazir during his incarceration and demanded a probe.
A similar incident happened last year in July when a prisoner, Shahvez Bhatti, detained in a murder case in Central Jail Adiala died.
The deceased’s father claims his son was allegedly killed by the police and his son’s opponents in jail.
However, Jail Superintendent Asad Javed Waraich stated that the prisoner, Shahvez, went to the court for a hearing, and on his way back to the jail he ingested, ‘ice’ (a drug) due to which his condition deteriorated.
He was transferred to the district headquarters hospital immediately but did not survive.
