ISLAMABAD: In a recent statement, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) said that internet speed across the country has been affected due to problems with two key submarine cables.
These cables, which are vital for international communication, have suffered significant disruptions.
The AAE-1 cable, which facilitates connectivity between Iran and Qatar, is experiencing an outage of 250 Gbps due to rerouting. Meanwhile, the SMW4 cable near Karachi has developed a fault.
To mitigate the effects of these disruptions, operators are actively rerouting Internet traffic through other available cables.
The PTA has assured the public that it is closely monitoring the situation and working with the relevant teams to resolve the technical issues.
The PTA has promised to keep consumers informed of further developments and updates regarding restoration of normal internet speeds.
The issue, which has been affecting internet services for several days, has also drawn the attention of parliamentary committees, which are currently debating the matter in both houses of Parliament.
