Iran’s top general meets COAS Syed Asim Munir

RAWALPINDI: Chief of General Staff (CGS) of the Iranian Armed Forces, Major General Mohammad Bagheri, visited the General Headquarters (GHQ) on Monday and met with Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir.

A news release issued by Inter-Services Public Relations said that during the meeting, the two sides discussed the current regional security environment and issues related to bilateral defense cooperation.

Upon arrival at GHQ, Major General Mohammad Bagheri paid tribute to the martyrs of Pakistan and laid a wreath at the Martyrs’ Memorial.

He was warmly welcomed by a well-equipped contingent of the Pakistan Army, including a guard of honor.

Earlier, Major General Dr. Mohammad Bagheri called on President Asif Ali Zardari at the Aiwan-e-Sadr today and discussed matters of bilateral importance.

During the meeting, the two sides highlighted the long-standing and brotherly relations between Pakistan and Iran and stressed the need to promote trade and economic relations for the mutual benefit of the two brotherly countries.

The President Secretariat Press Wing said in a press release that it was also highlighted that terrorism is a common challenge and both countries need to take effective and coordinated measures to address this challenge.

The Iranian Armed Forces Chief of Staff appreciated Pakistan’s stance on Gaza and Lebanon.

Major General Bagheri arrived in Islamabad on Sunday at the invitation of Army Chief General Asim Munir, leading a high-ranking military delegation.

According to Iranian media, Major General Mohammad Bagheri stressed the strengthening of military and security ties between Iran and Pakistan during his visit to the neighboring country.

Upon his arrival in Islamabad, General Bagheri remarked that “we have witnessed important events in the region over the past year, where Iran and Pakistan, as two Islamic countries, are located in the sensitive area of ​​West and South Asia.”
