ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has suspended Senior Civil Judge Inamullah for issuing an injunction against the demolition of Monal Restaurant despite the Supreme Court’s order.
The decision to suspend Judge Inamullah was taken by IHC Chief Justice Aamir Farooq, who also ordered an inquiry into the judge’s conduct. Justice Inamullah has been re-deputed as Officer on Special Duty (OSD) and has been directed to report to the High Court immediately.
Sessions Judge Kamran Basharat Mufti, who has been appointed as the Investigating Officer, will conduct an inquiry into the matter. According to judicial sources, Chief Justice Amir Farooq summoned Judge Inamullah to the High Court today, after which suspension orders were issued.
The injunction issued by Judge Inamullah had temporarily halted the demolition of the popular Monal restaurant, which was ordered by the Supreme Court due to environmental concerns and legal disputes over land ownership. The judge’s suspension raises questions about judicial handling of high-profile cases and adherence to high court decisions.
Further developments in the inquiry are expected in the coming days, as the investigation into Judge Inamullah’s decision continues.
