Over 16000 cellphones stolen in Karachi in past 10 months

KARACHI: The Citizen Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) on Friday released data on the crime situation in Karachi during the last 10 months.

Statistics show that from January 1 to October 31, more than 62,000 incidents of crime were reported in the city and more than 16,000 cell phones were stolen.

The report said that a total of 16,777 mobile phones were stolen during this 10-month period. The report further states that more than 39,000 people had their motorcycles taken away. Additionally, there were 1,489 documented incidents of car theft.

During this time, 19 incidents of kidnapping for ransom were recorded. A total of 80 cases of extortion were reported.

Meanwhile, 478 people lost their lives in various incidents.

The CPLC report also states that in these 10 months, 11 police personnel were martyred, and 105 civilians lost their lives during the efforts to resist dacoity.

Last year, Additional IG Karachi Khadim Hussain Rand claimed that the crime rate in Karachi has decreased after the expulsion of illegal immigrants, including Afghans, from the port city.

Citizen Police Liaison Committee, Sindh (CPLC) is a non-political statutory body. Established on 15-04-1990 by notification of Sindh Govt.

The charter of CPLC was issued on 24 October 2003 for the smooth functioning of the organization.

The CPLC is a unique example of a public-private partnership whereby citizens have come forward as volunteers, joined forces with law enforcement agencies to take responsibility for redressing a deteriorating law and order situation, and to pursue their own goals. Has worked tirelessly to achieve.

CPLC has 8 zonal offices in Karachi, the head office of which is CPLC Central Reporting Cell, located inside the Sindh Governor House. CPLC also has district offices in Hyderabad, Shaheed Benazirabad, Mirpurkhas and Jamshoro.
