PESHAWAR: In a positive move to provide financial assistance to enthusiastic media personnel, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur has launched a comprehensive support package for members of the Peshawar Press Club (PPC).
KP CM Gandapur introduced this package during the oath-taking ceremony of the newly elected PPC Cabinet at CM House. The event was attended by Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif (Advisor to the Chief Minister), PTI Central Secretary Information Sheikh Waqas Akram, Secretary Information Arshad Khan, and a large number of journalists.
Under this welfare scheme, The members of PPC will receive a one-time grant of Rs.50 million in the current fiscal year whereas, the Journalists’ Welfare Endowment Fund will see a significant boost, with its seed money increasing from Rs. 128 million to Rs. 200 million.
Additionally, several other key initiatives were introduced including the increase in number of scholarships for children of deserving journalists, Issuance of allotment letters for journalists’ plots in New Peshawar Valley shortly and Provision of solar systems to journalists through a balloting system.
During the event CM Ali Amin urged journalists to be objective and thoughtful in forming opinions, emphasizing that credibility and reliability should be an integral part of their daily practices.
Moreover, he proposed that media houses should conduct programs comparing the governance, performance, and revenue generation of different provincial governments where the provincial representatives can present annual performance reports to enhance public awareness and media accountability.
