KARACHI: In a tragic incident, a man lost his life when a speeding oil tanker overturned his car near the Baloch Colony Flyover in the wee hours of Thursday in Karachi. The accident created hours-long traffic disruption.

According to the rescue officials, the crane extracted the car trapped under the oil tanker after three hours. The deceased, identified as Asad, was shifted to Jinnah Hospital.

Zulfiqar, a Fire Officer, confirmed the completion of the rescue operation. He also stated that the district administration has been notified to arrange to transfer oil from the affected tanker. However, due to safety concerns, the tanker cannot be moved until emptied.

The rescue operation was carried out by closing the bridge due to a leakage of kerosene.

Despite several hours having passed since the accident, the district administration has yet to arrive, and the necessary large crane for removing the tanker is still awaited.

Deputy Inspector General Traffic Karachi Ahmed Nawaz Cheema said the tanker, carrying 60,000 litres of jet fuel, was going towards the airport area. He said all four compartments were full of fuel, out of which 600 litres of oil had spilled on the road

At the same time, both lanes of the Baloch Colony bridge are closed, disrupting commuters heading to offices. Traffic bound for the Korangi Industrial Area is being redirected through alternate routes.
