Meme fest on social media after Usman Buzdar resigns from post

LAHORE: Pakistan’s current political situation witnessed a twist after Usman Buzdar tendered his resignation as the chief minister of Punjab after the joint Opposition submitted a no-confidence motion against him in the provincial assembly on Monday.

This strengthened Prime Minister Imran Khan’s position amid the Opposition’s efforts to oust him through a vote of no-confidence as PML-Q sided with the premier after he nominated their candidate, Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi, as the next Punjab CM. The offer was also duly accepted by him, according to the senior party leader, Moonis Elahi.

However, a meme fest erupted on social media with hilarious reactions to the development, mainly in appreciation of Buzdar.

Meanwhile, #WasimAkram also started trending on Twitter as Buzdar was mentioned as “Wasim Akram plus” in many instances, in reference to PM Imran Khan’s comment about cricketers being hand-picked by him becoming star players such as former Pakistan pacer Wasim Akram.

PM Imran Khan had said that Buzdar would make one of the best chief ministers of Punjab.

“I used to select the players in cricket and they became great players like Wasim Akram and Inzamamul Haq. [Another] Wasim Akram is going to emerge here as well,” Geo News reported PM Imran Khan as saying at the time of Buzdar’s appointment.
