LAHORE: To ensure smooth travel for commuters during Eid, the Motorway Police have initiated a special campaign against the widespread practice of overcharging passengers on interstate routes.
The Motorway Police’s operation aims to prevent unscrupulous transport companies from exploiting travelers.
The special drive, which began on Eid eve, is planned to last until June 20, according to Motorway Police authorities. Special arrangements have been made along the National Highway from Lahore to Sadiqabad, with checkpoints set up at critical areas, including toll plazas, to monitor and control fare collecting.
DIG Shahid Javed, speaking to the media, emphasized the importance of the campaign in ensuring fair treatment to travelers. “Any vehicle found charging excess fare will be fined accordingly,” he said. He also emphasized the need for fare lists to be prominently displayed in passenger cars so that travelers are aware of the appropriate rates.
“Complaints about overcharging and overloading will be handled promptly,” DIG Shahid Javed remarked.
The idea comes amid worries about excessive fees and overcrowding on public transportation lines during the holiday season, which frequently causes discomfort and exploitation of customers. Commuters appreciate the crackdown, which they hope will result in a smoother and more regulated travel experience during Eid.
