LAHORE: The National Highways and Motorway Police have announced the reopening of Motorway M-1, connecting Islamabad to Peshawar, and Motorway M-2, linking Islamabad to Lahore, to all types of traffic.

Earlier today, Motorway authorities closed the M-2 from Lahore to Bhaira, the M-3 from Lahore to Dera Ghazi Khan, and the M-4 from Multan to Pindi Bhattian due to the smog.

As a result of the severe fog, flight operations in Punjab have also been affected, canceling six flights from Multan. Meanwhile, a total of 34 flights nationwide have been delayed, including both domestic and international flights.

This decision follows a reduction in smog intensity, ensuring safer travel conditions. Precautionary measures have led to the temporary closure of these motorways overnight to prevent accidents and protect users.

Motorway Police Spokesperson emphasized the importance of cautious driving during foggy conditions, advising citizens to avoid unnecessary travel during foggy hours, complete journeys during daylight and reach destinations before fog sets in, use fog lights in vehicles, refrain from speeding, and maintain extra distance from the next vehicle.

Lahore continues to top the global rankings for the most polluted cities in the world. According to AQI reports, the air quality in the Punjab capital is hazardous with AQI standing at 507 followed by Delhi at the second spot.

For real-time updates on motorway closures and driving assistance, citizens can contact the Motorway Police Helpline at 130.

With the motorways now open, travelers can plan their journeys accordingly, prioritizing safety and cautious driving practices to minimize risks associated with foggy conditions.
