ISLAMABAD: The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has suspended the operations of various centers countrywide for some time due to persistent rains and floods in various parts of the country.
The official release states that the centers have been closed down in order to guarantee the safety of the employees as well as citizens since the recent weather has had devastating effects on normal operations.
The closed offices comprise Hafizabad, Jhang, Layyah, Sargodha, Gujrat, Sialkot, and Depalpur offices. Certain branches like Wanike Tarar, Jalalpur Bhattian, 18 Hazari, Ahmad Nagar, Kot Momin, Kari Sharif, Kotli Loharan, Saidpur, and Depalpur service centers have been impacted.
NADRA has requested citizens from the impacted areas to seek services from nearby operational offices for their immediate documentation requirements until operations are restored in the closed offices.
Officials have promised that the services will be resumed immediately once the situation improves.
India’s release of excess water and heavy rains have resulted in the overflow of rivers Ravi, Chenab, and Sutlej, leading to extensive flooding in Punjab.
Some districts have been flooded, crops have been lost, and cattle washed away, and official reports confirm that a minimum of 20 deaths occurred.
A deliberate breach was opened on the side of Rawaz Bridge to shield Jhang city from the rising Chenab floodwaters, Punjab Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) stated.
Relief Commissioner Punjab, Nabeel Javed, said that evacuation at the riverbank has been finalized, and Faisalabad and Jhang administrations are on high alert with field officers standing in readiness.
The surge in the Ravi River has also inundated villages on the outskirts of Lahore, and water has entered some of the suburban areas.
People from Theme Park, Mohlanwal, Mureedwal, Farukhabad, Shafiqabad, Afghan Colony, New Metro City, and Chuhng have been evacuated safely.
Rescue efforts are also underway in Talat Park, Babu Sabu, where relief activities are being carried out.
Besides this, four blocks of the Park View Housing Society were underwater, but people were evacuated on time. The authorities are keeping a close eye on the situation, while rescue and relief activities are being performed at full speed.
