ISLAMABAD: In another blow to the ruling party Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, Asif Kirmani has resigned from the party, here on Sunday.

As per the details, Kirmani, a close aide of party supremo Nawaz Sharif, criticized the party’s leadership and its current political direction, citing his dissatisfaction with the handling of the economy, which he saw as an increase in living standards. Prices and inflation have increased.

He also expressed concern that the party leadership is celebrating its “ineffective governance” while the people continue to suffer. In his statement, the veteran politician addressed Sharif directly, saying, “Nawaz Sharif Sahib! All is not well.

At present, Asif has not revealed any intention to join any other political party but promised to provide a detailed explanation about his decision soon.

Kirmani’s resignation is part of a wider trend of senior PML-N figures leaving the party. Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Abbas Afridi, Muhammad Zubair and Miftah Ismail had earlier left the party citing differences with the leadership and concerns about the party’s relevance in current politics.
