ISLAMABAD: The Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has announced the discovery of gas and condensate at the Bitrism East-1 well in the Khairpur district of Sindh.
In a press statement, the company said it will contribute to reducing the gap between energy supply and demand through indigenous resources.
“OGDC is the operator of the Bitrism Exploration License with 95% working interest, along with GHPL holding 5% working interest.”
The company added that the Bitrism East-1 well was drilled using its in-house expertise in collaboration with its joint venture partner GHPL. “Based on wireline log interpretations, two Drill Stem Tests (DSTs) were conducted in the Lower Goru Formation, targeting Massive and Basal Sands.”
“The well was spudded on June 30, 2025, and drilled down to a depth of 3,800 meters in the Sembar Formation, using OGDCL’s in-house expertise in collaboration with its Joint Venture Partner. Based on wireline log interpretations, two Drill Stem Tests (DSTs) were carried out in the Lower Goru Formation (Massive and Basal Sands),” the OGDCL said in a statement.
The DSTs revealed promising results, with the well producing substantial quantities of hydrocarbons. The combined production potential is estimated at 22.5 million standard cubic feet of gas per day (MMSCFD) and 690 barrels of condensate per day (BCD) at a 32/64” choke.
This discovery from the Lower Goru Formation is expected to contribute to Pakistan’s efforts in closing the gap between energy supply and demand by increasing indigenous resources. Additionally, it will enhance OGDCL’s hydrocarbon reserves and support the country’s energy needs.
