One killed, 19 injured in Hunza van accident

HUNZA: A passenger van met with an accident near Nasirabad, Hunza on Sunday, killing at least one person and injuring 19.

According to Rescue 1122 officials, the accident took place around 9 am when the van, carrying 20 passengers, was going from Miachar, Nagar to Gilgit. According to reports, the driver lost control of the vehicle near Nasirabad check post in Hunza district after his health deteriorated, leading to the accident.

Rescue 1122 teams from Hunza and Nagar shifted the injured passengers to the District Headquarters Hospital in Secunderabad Nagar. Four seriously injured passengers were later shifted to PHQ Hospital in Gilgit by Rescue 1122 ambulance.

Meanwhile, the search operation for the missing persons from the recent Thalichi coaster accident continued for the sixth consecutive day. Pakistan Navy divers and Rescue 1122 teams are jointly conducting search efforts.

The Thalichi coaster van accident took place on Tuesday when a coaster van carrying a wedding party fell into the Indus River near the Thalichi bridge in Astore. The incident claimed at least 14 lives, with 11 still missing. The victims include the groom and his three relatives from Chakwal, as well as 20 relatives of the bride from Astore and the driver.
